Here’s how you know it’s time for a power wash!

With so many moving parts to consider, home maintenance is a chore on its own. And with the added stressors of hurricane season, the changing weather, and everything 2020 has thrown at us so far, it can be all too easy for maintenance tasks to fall off your to-do list. However, we can’t ignore those important chores forever! And for pressure washing in particular, there are times when your home sends you signals it’s time for a helping hand.

Here are five ways to tell your home is ready for a pressure wash:

1. You’re wondering why your energy bill is so high.

Let’s start with a not-so-obvious sign it’s time for a cleaning. As the weather (FINALLY) starts to get cooler, you’d expect your energy bill to drop. However, if you find yourself with consistently high bills — or, horror of horrors, a bill that’s double what it was this time last year — it may be a sign the exterior of your home or business needs a little TLC.

Think about it — with gunk and grime caked onto your roof and siding, it becomes much harder to regulate the temperature of your home or office. This is because the sun heats dirt-crusted surfaces unevenly compared to those that are gunk-free. At the end of the day, your AC units have to work much harder to create a consistent atmosphere in your home, resulting in skyrocketing energy bills.

If you receive a high bill this month, take a look around your home for other signs it might be time for a wash. Then give us a call to take that task off your plate!

2. Your roof is a weird color.

Roof maintenance is one of the easiest things to forget about as a homeowner. You moved in ten years ago, so was your roof always that color, or is it time for a scrub?

Some of the signs it’s time to clean your roof include dark patches in random spots (left by pesky mold and mildew), clogged gutters (which collect dirty roof runoff that has nowhere else to go), or discoloration (from dirt, mold, and bacteria — yuck!).

It’s important to note that because of the structure of shingles and roof tiles, pressure washing is not the way to clean a roof. Invest in a top-quality soft washing treatment instead. (Here’s a hint: We can do that!)

3. You see green or brown gunk when you view your home from the street.

Whether you’re planning on selling your home soon or just looking to avoid nastygrams from the Homeowners’ Association, it’s a good idea to take a look at your home’s curb appeal. When viewed from the street, what do you notice first? Your gorgeous flowers and seasonal flag, or patches of green and brown gunk collecting on the siding and sidewalks?

Besides the cut these unsightly blemishes cause for your home value and curb appeal, mold and mildew can pose a serious health threat for your family. If you notice gunk taking over your outdoor spaces, it’s time to call in your Jacksonville power washing experts.

4. You’re getting splinters or slipping on your patio or deck.

Outdoor spaces are our favorite place to spend the cool fall evenings. But last time you stepped out on your patio or deck, did you have to pull splinters out of your feet? Did you slip and slide on undefinable goop collecting by the pool?

These are surefire signs it’s time for a deep clean of your patio or deck. Moisture, mold, and dirt working its way into wood or stone can ruin the integrity of your outdoor space, leading to loose nails, rickety paver stones, and slippery surfaces. A good pressure washing service will nip those problems in the bud!

It also might be time for a waterproofing treatment — schedule a treatment to keep moisture out of wood or stone pavers and keep your patio looking as fresh as the day it was built!

5. You need a fresh coat of paint.

Thinking about freshening up your home’s wardrobe? A fresh coat of paint is a great DIY project for the early fall, but there’s a catch. Because of the chemical makeup of house paint, it needs to be applied to a sparkling-clean surface. Otherwise, you’ll get stuck with uneven paint, chipping, or variations in shade due to layers of dirt trapped underneath.

Before you bust out the scaffolding, give us a call to prep your painting surface. A top-quality power wash will save you from having to redo your work in a couple of months!
